What's the point of this if you have to have a 230W, no doubt atrocious, external PSU? At least apple manages to stuff its PSUs inside the case. If I wanted a giant brick on the floor, I could get, you know, a normal PC.
  • Inteli - Friday, January 4, 2019 - link

A 230W PSU isn't that big. Lenovo's for example, is 4x8x1". That's significantly lower profile than a standard tower.
  • MarcusMo - Friday, January 4, 2019 - link

Yes, I do understand that even a 230w PSU is smaller than a PC chassis. Thank you. My point is that its an inelegant solution that diminishes the value proposition of the product, which is pretty limited to begin with.

Do you expect people to acknowledge your point when you're being a dick about it?
  • MarcusMo - Saturday, January 5, 2019 - link

You’re right. Sorry, the dickishness was uncalled for.

11.3 liter volume. You can build a cheaper one on Dan case a4sfx which is only 7 liters and use a psu up to 800watts

A considerable majority of the market for workstation hardware comes from business and corporate entities and their acquisitions departments are generally uninterested in a DIY box using consumer-grade parts.

Needs more work. The design tries too hard to be cute, rather than competent. It looks like an air purifier, or an iMac Pro that was left in the dryer for too long and shrunk. And, a 230W power supply (external, apparently) is supposed to power an i9 9900K AND the Quattro card? That is, let's say, very optimistic. Lastly, no HDMI 2.0b or 2.1 connector? Not impressed.
  • lilkwarrior - Saturday, January 5, 2019 - link

You don't need HDMI 2.0 if you have Thunderbolt 3. If they have the Titan Ridge Thunderbolt 3 controller, Displayport 1.4 is used that's way better than HDMI 2.0.

HDMI 2.1 is the only thing that would necessitate adding a HDMI port; Thunderbolt 3 isn't fast enough for HDMI 2.1 and Thunderbolt 4 isn't yet ready since it seems Intel is waiting for PCIe4

Official Website from ASUS said is 180W + 230W Power Adapter and so It's 410W in total.
  • pixelstuff - Friday, January 4, 2019 - link

Might have been nice if they had put a 5G or 10G ethernet adapter in there.

Xeon fail. Can't call it a workstation without Xeon (if Intel). And then why put a Quadro in there, when they can't even bother with a workstation-grade CPU? I mean, unlike Xeon, Quadro is truly just about branding. Most Quadro cards don't even have ECC memory.
  • Mastadon - Saturday, January 5, 2019 - link

Actually most Quadro cards do have ECC memory. I agree with your point about ECC memory. Not much of a workstation without ECC RAM.

I can't help but think that good airflow might be beneficial no matter the temperature. After all, the higher the temperature, the higher the voltage required; leaving it up it might use less power by staying at a lower temperature to begin with.

What the hell am I buying a workstation with a 8 GB GPU in 2019 for? Like, paying workstation prices for that? No.
