I didn't know it was not in production yet. Having to wait is always painful. At least the price of 480 and 512GB SSDs are getting closer to what we can afford during this time.

Any updates on the life cycle with the new class of 20nm and sub 20nm NAND?

Intel is promising the same 3K-5K P/E cycles for their 20nm NAND: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5193/intel-and-micro...

No idea about Toshiba though, as they haven't even published any info about their 24nm NAND.

Any NAND manufacture that also make their own controller / controller firmware plus SSD are most likely have higher reliability. So in my book Toshiba is on par with Intel. However they have always had lower performing SSD. Now if those numbers are correct then we have another great SSD to choose. Although i would love some miracle happens we could get this in the coming Mac upgrade.

The other thing is operating power consumption. With the fastest SSD being even more power hungry then 2.5" HDD, the idea of SSD saving battery doesn't sound so convincing. We know SSD spend more time in idle mode but we should take more Operation Mode into considering as well. Hopefully we see some improvement there.

I have been reading several of the SSD articles on AnAnd and reading reviews on Newegg. I have recently purchased a Sager notebook to use during my college years as an engineering student. I was wondering if an SSD would be worth the money right now or should i wait for SSD's to become more adavanced at cheaper?

You bought a Sager notebook, but are worried about price of SSD? Pretty much every drive out there is $1/GB or less. I bought mine when it was over $2/GB and I'd do it again for $2/GB. Theres really no comparison of performance from SSD to HDD. The SSD I bought had lower seq. read/write performance from a HDD, but outperformed the HDD every time.

64GB Samsung drive rebranded by G.Skill. Bought in March 2009 and still going strong.
