The best way to sum up it's merit/value is convenience. Think first digital cameras. They were bound to be the future. You can count on people buying on convenience. It's harder to quantify from person to person but it's a huge factor always.
Is it really that amazing? What differentiates it from a Lumia 920 automatically uploading all your photos and videos to SkyDrive? (btw that's also a phone!)
Likely in the way that it's a camera with connectivity, rather than a phone that happens to have a decent camera. Controls and layout and then engineered to facilitate taking pictures with it, and the ability to upload the pictures and access them is clearly a benefit, but comes after the primary task. With a phone, using the phone as a phone or smartphone comes first and taking photos comes after that. Even if the image quality is great, that still isn't the main purpose and the feel and control of it will still come short of the dedicated device.
All windows phones including the Lumia 920 have a two stage hardware shutter button just like a point and shoot. Optical zoom would be the main thing though. If you can live without optical zoom I don't see a point in this device.
Lumia 920 is still very much in the "smartphone camera" territory. That being said, the Galaxy Camera could've been a lot better as a camera for the price. Here's hoping gen 2 will be a lot better.
It's CES not MWC one shouldn't focus on mobile to begin with. It was a mistake to not show more mobile devices, since the ones that did launch got more coverage than most devices will get when launching at MWC. You forgot to mention mobile accessories, everybody is making fitness trackers, smart watches and BT speakers now , but we had some that are more original ,like the Parrot flower sensor/thingy or the luggage tracker that comes with a someone reasonable subscription, unlike other tracking services that require a mobile connection.
Outside of mobile , CES was somewhat of a bummer though, 4k TVs with no prices , smart TVs and smart appliances with nothing really new (in a meaningful way anyway), while a few more interesting things like the Oculus Rift or that electric skateboard were not launched at CES so they don't count. It was odd not to see more gadgets using solar this year and nice to see so many crowdfunded products.
