It just bothers me when these premium monitors cost the same as Apple's. I know Apple's aren't perfect and that you can make a lot of panels better if you calibrate, but most people would see the two and opt for the one with more known brand, let alone the alu/aesthetics/usually thinner/build quality/etc.
I suppose where these redeem themselves is when they go on sale/have price drops, or even when buying used. Apple's prices stay the same, and the resale value is a bit retarded =p.
And where did you see a price on this thing? The 27" Apple displays cost over 800€ (839€). HP, Dell, Fujitsu, Samsung, Philips, ViewSonic, Iiyama, DGM, Hazro all offer 1440p displays well below that. Not sure what you are talking about. The displays that approach the Apple are from Eizo and the ones above Apple are from Nec or 30" displays.
I hear ya dude, 16:10 is ideal. But, the lack of quality options and the high prices of decent 30" 16:10 monitors makes me feel like I have little choice but to go with 1440p when I upgrade my monitor.
Even the Dell U3014, which seems pretty sweet, costs well over $1,000 and has several well documented problems that will probably require a hardware revision to resolve.
That's because of the hood which you can obviously remove. Anyway this is meant for color-critical works, not gaming. Professionals hardly care about the looks.
You don't seem to spend much time with color calibrated monitors. Every Nec and Eizo I know that caters to professionals has that hood to stop light from flowing into the monitor and keep the colors accurate that way.

Eugh 16:9 ratio. Pass.MikeMurphy - Monday, June 10, 2013 - link
Sure it's 16:9, but vertical pixels exceed 1200, which isn't bad.MrSpadge - Monday, June 10, 2013 - link
1440 pixels are easily enough for me.erple2 - Monday, June 10, 2013 - link
I think that's a shroud around it. Implying that it's for technical work that you don't want any reflections on.erple2 - Monday, June 10, 2013 - link

Ah, that's a hood. That makes more sense. The front-on view makes it look like it has a weird melted-plastic aesthetic in the bezel.

True, you can probably remove it, but why did they even put such a misunderstanding around it in the first place?Death666Angel - Monday, June 10, 2013 - link

Too bad they didn't include some photos that clearly define the shroud. Oh wait!http://www.anandtech.com/Gallery/Album/2854#6
