I'm sure the fact that Google owns Motorola also helps

    Google doesn't own Motorola.

Well not anymore, but the second gen Moto X was developed under Google ownership.

I don't think that has any effect in getting updates quicker, they were ALWAYS treated as a different entity under Google. They never had preferential treatment. They were quick because they don't have heavy skins on their phones.

... and they developed the Nexus 6 so have had plenty of early access to the sourcecode.

so what's LG's excuse, since they developed the Nexus 5, which also has 5.0?

...well I'm not a big fan of Motorola, there are lot of better and high rated phone in the market (see http://www.topreport.org/phones/ for example)

they still do, the ownership hasn't changed yet AFAIK. Waiting on Regulatory approval

The acquisition of Motorola by Lenovo was completed on October 30, 2014, so while you're technically correct and we humbly bask in your awe inspiring expansive general knowledge; the Lollipop roll out was certainly planned and started while under Google ownership.

Then explain LG and the LG G3.

All OEMs got early access to LP since i/o; google stated this fact on record.

It also doesn't hurt that the current Nexus 6 is basically a giant version of the Moto X, so chances are other than maybe some driver issues it's probably pretty plug and play..

That's what surprised me about the LG-bult Nexi, sure their skin is heavier, but Google still basically built the version around their phone and yet their software updates have only recently been anywhere near current.

it would be a bit of a joke if first gen of those didn't get it right after...

I have a first gen Moto X and I'm eagerly awaiting Lollipop.
  • tipoo - Friday, November 14, 2014 - link

The first gen (and better) Moto G has nearly the exact same internals as the second gen, so hopefully it won't be too long for first gen owners either.

I bought a 2nd gen Moto G specifically on the promise of early access to Lollipop. Even though it's unlocked and GSM, because I bought it in the UK and not US, I have to wait. This is ridiculous. Without trying to start a willy-waving contest between Fandroids and iSHeep, Android resellers and Google have a lot to learn from Apple about doing a roll out to everyone quickly and efficiently.

Nexus 5 on T-mobile got the update today.
  • anandreader106 - Thursday, November 20, 2014 - link

I was about to respond to you and say "No, not all Nexus 5s on T-mobile got it yet."

Then I looked at my phone and sure enough, there way a system update notification.
